For 25 years the Blue Mountain Adventure Centre has been helping people to reach their God given potential through the challenge of adventure, on the 20th June 2015,  I joined a group of people who share a heart for BMAC and along with what seemed like all the rain in New Zealand we descended upon Raurimu to celebrate this Anniversary and officially open the new build. Fortunately, among other things the new build has a large open hall

space so we were all able to sit comfortably warm and dry during the proceedings.

BMAC manger Mel Crook who shared her heart and history with BMAC and her visions for its future, Before Lt. Cl. Rod Carey pulled out his guitar and had us raise our voices with a rousing 'How great thou art'

The Army is like a climbing harness, Cl. Howell declared, holding one up for us all to see; we are there to catch the falling, and BMAC is a part of that mission. After dedicating the new buildings to the Lord, he invited up Peter Wells and Margaret Green, along with representatives from the builders, BMAC and the Army to stand behind the ribbon, while Peter and Margret synchronously cut it.

Once the ribbon was cut it wasn’t long before the keen young climbers swarmed the wall, adults watching and talking waiting for their turn to scale the heights. As the rain chose not to abate, going outside was not an option, but there was plenty going on inside anyway; While some enjoyed the food and conversation, others took the opportunity to take a look around the building and see what they could find. During this time I met the people who opened BMAC and it was great to hear their story, and understand a little more of the history of BMAC; 25 Years going strong and many more to come.

Is experience necessary for the adventure activities that BMAC offers?

Not at all. Our staff are fully qualified and capable of safely taking you through any adventures that come your way. No experience needed but an experience definitely guaranteed!

Are there any age restrictions at BMAC?

We can cater for all ages, from six to 60 years old (or over!) Age should not limit participation in any of our activities. If you have an queries about an age of a member in your group, give us a call or send us an email!

Can I get cell phone reception at BMAC?

There is limited cell phone reception on the centre grounds but a 2 minute drive will get you into a full reception area.

Do we bring our own food to BMAC or is food provided by the centre?

BMAC is a self-catering facility. Our lodges have well equipped kitchens with cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. You are welcome to bring your own food and enjoy cooking in our lodges. Or take the fuss out of planning your adventure, and choose our semi-catered food service. For more information on both options, see our Catering page.

Does BMAC provide internet access?

During office hours (9am - 5pm Monday to Friday) it's possible to obtain a ski or weather report however, there is currently no access for personal internet use at any time.

How close is BMAC to the Ruapehu ski fields?

We are 30 minutes from Whakapapa and 1 hour from Turoa.

How many people can BMAC accomodate? What is the accomodation like at BMAC?

We have two accomodation lodges which have a total of 60 beds, however we suggest a maximum of 50 people to ensure a comfortable stay. Both lodges have bathrooms, lounges, dining rooms and fully equipped kitchens. Please see our Facilities page for more information.

Is there a minimum or maximum group size?

If you are bringing your own group to BMAC, a group would be between 9 -11 people per instructor. Please see our Design Your Own Adventure page for more information. However, we also run adventures you can join as an individual or small group. Please see our Join an Upcoming Adventure page for more information. Our recommended maximum group size is 50 people if staying onsite, however we can work with larger groups - please contact us for more information.

Is there a minimum or maximum length of stay?

In a word, no! We have groups that come to BMAC for as short as a half day of activity and others that come for a 21 day adventure journey. However, we do have standard packages for week and weekend adventures.

What if I don’t know how to swim and I want to do water based adventures?

You will be fully kitted up with life jackets and be supervised the entire duration of the activity. Being able to swim is always a bonus but not a necessity. Just inform your instructor prior to the activity.
